we've been talkin' 'bout Jackson ever since the fire went out
On Friday before we took in
Al's movie, Devin and I wandered down to
Prince's Island to inspect the water level of the Bow River. We've had quite a lot of rain here in Calgary this month. Not quite flood-worthy, but enough to impress when you see how much the water level has come up. Friday afternoon turned into a very nice afternoon, so it was a nice time for a stroll, and some photo-taking. In
my photos, you can see what appear to be little creeks but are actually the footpaths covered with water. The Bow River isn't typically a very deep one - during the summer when we raft, it's not uncommon to get grounded or to drag your feet on the bottom. So that's a nice reference for assessing the water depth these days.
Another odd thing that happens here (when we get a lot of rain?) is that the
poplar trees produce a lot of fluffies ("down-covered capsules"). The air is just filled with these white fluffy things that tickle your face and get up your nose (and everywhere, really). A couple of
my pictures show them - they look like snow against the blue sky. And you might be able to see them in this video I shot while walking.
